The Power Division of Walter Tosto SpA uses the Photogrammetry technology for the acquisition of metric data (shape and position) of the components to be manufactured. This special technology is used by major airlines and by NASA to make accurate dimensional measurements under dynamic conditions.
For the measurement of a support structure of the ITER vacuum vessel, Walter Tosto is using a special digital camera that acquires the position in space of specific targets placed on the component to be measured. The data is then processed by a software that uses the trigonometric logic to extrapolate the correct position in space with a typical accuracy of 0.02 mm (five times smaller than the average thickness of a human hair).
