The AMW consortium (Ansaldo – Mangiarotti – Walter Tosto) is in charge of the manufacturing of seven sectors of the Vacuum Vessel for the ITER project – www.iter.org, www.fusionforenergy.europa.eu. After the engineering, prototyping and qualification phases, the manufacturing activities finally started.
In the first months of production, all the manufacturing processes for the first Vacuum Vessel sector started and significant achievements were reached, such as the machining of approximately one/third of the forged flexible housings and the forming of one/fourth of the double curved shells characterizing the unique shape of the Vessel.

The leaders of the AMW consortium – Roberto Adinolfi, CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare, Luca Tosto, Managing Director of Walter Tosto and Josselin Gillot, Managing Director of Mangiarotti –  agreed in saying that: “The AMW Consortium, by efficiently combining the skills and capabilities of three experienced companies, is committed to fully support this ambitious program and to closely work with Fusion for Energy and ITER Organization to turn this challenge into a success”.
They also added : “The completion of the first activity of this kind is an important achievement for the consortium, now we can be more aggressive for the next manufacturing steps and look forward with renewed confidence to future steps”.
