The nuclear safety culture is defined as “the ensemble of core values and behaviours resulting from a collective commitment by leaders and individuals to emphasize safety over competing goals to ensure protection of people and the environment“.

In order to promote an adequate knowledge on nuclear safety culture, Walter Tosto SpA has created a manual for all its staff and external collaborators.

Luca Tosto, Managing Director of Walter Tosto SpA said: “The manufacturing of critical components for nuclear installations requires operational excellence and strict controls. However, to operate in a suitable nuclear culture the concept goes far beyond the technical and quality capabilities of the organization“.

The manual, distributed both in Italian and in English, examines the different aspects embraced by the nuclear security, such as leadership ‘s values and actions, work processes, questioning attitude, problems identification and resolution, work environment, communication, continuous learning and personal responsibility.
